useless, defeated silently in 5 seconds
It arrived today and is going back to Amazon for a refund tomorrow. It looks secure when you put it in place, and feels secure when you test it by pulling inward on the door handle, but test it by going outside pushing on the door and you will be shocked at how easy it is to defeat. The rubber ears on the doorknob end are too flexible and bend out of the way (to the side and down) when you push on the door allowing the door to be very easily opened. The entire top rubber assembly also flexed slightly to the side on the metal pole as it was defeated. It's secured to the end of the metal pole about as well one of those rubber erasers that slip on to the end of your pencil. What's worse is that because the thickest parts of the pole, the top ears and the bottom foot, are made of soft rubber they were silent and made no racket as I pushed on the door. Buy This Product - Far superior to MasterLock Door Jam!
I purchased two Master Lock 265DCCSEN Dual-Function Security Bars about 4 months after looking at the various options out there (including the Mace Big Jammer.) The MasterLock Product seemed to function well and kept the door secure against some 'simulated assault' - I am 200 pounds and applied full/moving force with the door handle AND deadbolt disengaged.
Side note: all of these door jam type products perform well on a hard surface (tile/wood/linoleum.) They are NOT well suited to carpet.
Disappointment Part 1: One day, I returned home to find that my door jam (not engaged as I was away from the house) had fallen over (I keep it next to the door when not in use.)
Much to my surprise, the impact from the fall (slide) to the floor had caused the end of the door jam that notches under the door handle had SHEARED OFF! I hadn't really noticed before but the 'business end' of the door jam was PLASTIC! Needless to say, I was not impressed at this obvious...
Give me a piece of mind - great investment
Someone tried breaking into my apartment door while I was home so I decided to purchase this device. I sleep much better because of this device. I have tested this out on a couple doors and it works great. I feel the door itself would break from the hinges or the door handle would break before this device would give way. This device would give me ample time to wake up, call the police, and setup a couple painful surprises for anyone that would make it past the door.
I feel that the amount of time, effort, and noise needed to break down a door with this device on it would not be worth it for a burglar. It is very easy to unarm when you are wanted to open the door, which would be important in an emergency such as a fire.
I saw the Master Lock version of this device and it is NOT constructed as good as the Mace version.
