Lock Out Hazard!I do not understand how it is that the Schlage website states that it necessary to make these "panic free" (which means that you can ALWAYS open it from the inside regardless of whether it's locked or not) while another reviewer mentioned that Kwikset does not do so. It's either a legally required feature or it's not. I, for one, find it extremely dangerous. I just installed them and thought I was doing it wrong. When I went to Schlage's website to see what I was doing wrong - there it is, buried in the FAQ's. As noted, it's not on the box. Which is unbelievably dangerous. No notification whatsoever? Just awful.
The set LOOKS good. The finish is smooth, the instructions were decent. But that feature - I just can't believe they would do that.

Looks Great, Feels Great, Is Great... Except for One ThingI went with brushed nickel Schlage levers through my whole house. Picked up a couple passage levers, and few privacy lock levers, and three keyed entry levers plus some deadbolts which I haven't got installed yet.
We really like the look and feel of these. They're solid and definitely a big step above our old Kwikset knobs that were throughout the house. There's just one thing that is holding these back of a five star rating from me. And it's not really a bad fault, but it can be pretty annoying if you don't use your head. It's the "emergency exit" feature of the lever. Now I'm not an idiot. I get it, I understand why it's there and I think it's a pretty nice thing to have. But here's the problem. We're getting rid of these old knobs that were locked from inside and out when you locked them. These levers don't do that. When you lock them, they are locked from the outside but not from the inside. They will open just as normal even if it is in the lock position...
Solid and well madeThis entry lever was a bit more expensive than others, and there turns out to be a good reason for that slightly higher price. This lever is solid, well made, and great looking. It was easy to install, although the directions were pretty bad. Thus, if this is the first lever that you will be replacing, watch carefully as you take the old lever out of the door, as you won't get much direction from the packaging. But, once installed, you will find this lever to be a tight fit, have a smooth solid feel to its operation and well worth the cost.
