High Quality Parts & Design: Extremely Poor Instructions
Just yesterday I finally finished installing this gate opener, and I feel a kind of civic duty to report back about it.

If I were to rate the opener in terms of it's quality and craftsmanship, it would be close to five stars (probably four). This is not a flimsy opener. The actuators are solid metal, and you can see that the gears are all metal. It is very well made. It's too bad, though, cause all the hard work they put into the materials and design falls short due to an almost complete lack of instructions. After spending several weeks figuring this out on my own (cause I can do this stuff only on weekends), I realized that the instructions actually get in the way of understanding how to install the thing.

I came across two HUGE problems with the docs: 1) The mechanical diagram leads you to think that you have to mount the arms within millimeters (yes, it's metric) of a specific layout for it to work. 2) The sparse instructions tell you that arms will program...

Very High Quality Gate Opener especially for the price
I installed the gate opener myself in about two hours and it has been running fine for a month, the installation was pretty easy even though I'm not a PRO Gate installer. I see that several folks have complained that the instructions were difficult to understand but they must have updated them because I didn't have any trouble understanding them. Compared to comparable products like Elite and liftmaster, this unit is much more affordable.

Seems to be alright.
This is the cheap low end model, doesn't get much worse then this for gate openers... and it works fine! This model is good for the light weight ranch tube gates. Make certain your gate is in perfect shape, do NOT buy any opener unless you have a well installed functioning gate.

I gave four stars because I couldn't program the "Stop Limit" function (this is how the gate knows to stop when it's perfectly closed). Customer Service told me that this is a common problem and you need to make sure you have a good distance between the control box and power arm. I stretched it out as much as I could, and it still didn't work. So I re-mounted the hardware to close perfectly with the factory settings (since I couldn't change them) and it worked great. Maybe try this the first time if you buy one in case you have the same problem as me (they say it's common).

Follow up Review - Needs Improvement and Customer Service of GTO is terrible!
This is our second opener from GTO. The first (model FM350) we purchased 8 years ago. It did not work out of the box and after a week of constantly calling GTO, without reaching anything but an answering machine on their non-toll free tech line, I finally managed to speak with somebody and get a replacement unit sent out. This unit worked well with little trouble until last year. I looked for a replacement and found this model at a much lower price than the FM350. I was surprised to find that it was not a direct replacement for the FM350 and its installation was entirely different from the FM350. It also seemed to be the FM350's very tiny cousin.

It worked for 60 days and gave up the ghost. Based on my previous problems reaching GTO on the telephone 8 years ago, I was hoping things had changed. I called the toll free number on the opener and, as 8 years ago, was told to call a non-toll free number for tech support. Once again a call was made and a message left. The...

Instructions are poorly written and hard to follow.

Getting the mechanical hardware installed with the correct dimensions and geometry is moderately difficult even with the instructions provided.

The wiring diagram for the FM200 model is NOT included in the multi-model installation manual provided with it.

Telephone support - Several times required waiting up to half an hour on hold. This telephone support is available only during extended business hours Monday thru Friday.

Tech Support representatives were helpful, patient and effective when contacted.

The wiring and cables and control box are lightweight and easily subject to vandalism and weathering.

I ordered 5 of these low cost remotes. They are not compatible with the first version of the control board (uses dip switch for code) and it does not seem to work with the latest control board (kzb13) that I bought that has a learn button. So, gotta go through the hassle of shipping them back. The remote keypad does work with the latest control board so I know it is all hooked up ok.

Having problems but still like the product; REALLY like buying from Amazon.com!
I ordered this item to replace another Mighty Mule gate opener that failed when it was struck by lightning.

This unit wants to jam on a regular basis when using the remote control. If you try to open the gate, then close it too quickly, it jams and you have to get out of your vehicle and manually reset the unit. I plan to call GTO and get the unit replaced or upgraded under the warranty.

Having said all that, I have nothing but praise for Amazon and the seller that sold me this unit. They did exactly what they promised when they promised.

Would I recommend another GTO gate opener? Sure; I probably got that one-in-a-thousand units that has a glitch or some other minor problem. Their units are much more competitively priced than other brands of gate openers and their written and video taped instructions easily walked me through the installation of my first-ever gate opener.

Great as long as you never have a lightening storm
This is a really convenient item when it works. Every time we have a lightening storm it blows out the wireless connection on the board. The hard wired openers still work but not the wireless. Their tech support is useless. You wait 30 minutes each time to reach them and they have no idea what is wrong. I am on my third board in one year. Each time it is the same conversation. I wait 30 minutes online and they tell me my receiver is broken. I replace the receiver and it still doesn't work. I call again and wait 30 more minutes online for them to tell me to send the board back to them to check it out. I never hear from them so I call again and wait 30 minutes online to reach someone who puts me on hold for 30 minutes to find the return only to tell me they are backed up for weeks. After I throw a fit they tell me the item can not be repaired and I need a new board. Three times in a year this has happened. I have asked the Tech department what I can do to help prevent this...
Mighty Mule 350
The gate opener worked fine for 2 years and then the motor wore out. The manufacture, GTO, does not sell the motor as a part, They want you to replace the complete opener. The motor is nothing special, a frame 550 12volt motor which should cost about $5.00. If you need a gate opener to last more than 2 years, buy a comercial grade opener it will save you money in the long run.

Terrible Gate and Even Worse Customer Service
I had this gate system installed a few years ago, it died within 18 months. I went through all of the trouble shooting I could think of (replace fuses etc) and still could not get it working. I contacted the company and they sent me to their local dealers and distributors to try and find a repair person. I finally got hold of one and he (their recommended repair person) told me the gates were junk and he would not repair it. He did offer to replace it with another brand but otherwise he would not visit me. I went back to the company for help and they will not respond. The gate was barely used, maybe 5 times a week. If you read this review and think that it cannot be that bad, I promise you it is. Find another brand and save yourself some headaches.

Open Sesame
Was somewhat intimadated in the beginning, but if you follow the instructions (I read them over several times and highlighted what would pertain to me), it was really pretty easy. Lots of wires to keep track of. My gate is solar powered - got my panel elsewhere, as I found their panel to be overpriced. Was pleasantly surprised to discover that the gate opener works well over 100 feet from the gate (which is ONLY advertised as operational at 50-100 feet on the back of the opener packaging itself). Bought two openers thinking I could keep one in the car and one in the house, but gate will only read one opener at at time. Overall, I am pleased with the gate and really pleased I will not have to get out of my car in inclement weather to open/close gate.
Garbage! Find another brand
I would give this ZERO stars but am not offered that option!

I bought and installed this GTO 352 dual gate opener. Two weeks after installation it was totally dead. I sent it in while under full warranty and was told that "lightening" killed it and it was NOT covered by the warranty. I had to pay $100 to fix a product that was two weeks old.

I got it back and reinstalled it using an expensive lightning and surge protector. Guess what?

One week later it's dead again! This time the secondary opener is in the full out position and won't close.

Poorly designed, poorly protected against power surges and the warranty is worthless.

Find another brand, this one is junk!

I researched automatic gate operators quiet extensively. The only one I knew I did not want for sure was a GTO. (more on that later) I still could not decide. So I called a local dealer who sold and installed gate operators. He recommended USAutomatic . Why, "made in the US, better warranty, excellent support, commercial grade, low power usage, and a satisfied customer list". I trusted his professional opinion and bought the USAutomatic Sentry 300 S. After installing the operator and using it for a couple of weeks I am very satisfied. It works smooth, was easy to install, easy to setup, I get a 30% tax credit on the cost, and a decent warranty. I am very impressed with this Operator.

US Automatic Sentry 300S
I purchased this gate opener when my GTO "Mighty Mule" opener failed following ten years of service. The GTO opening mechanism had failed once during this period. When it was returned from an authorized repair center, it had not been reassembled correctly and I ended up using epoxy to secure the shaft seal in the opening mechanism. When the GTO unit again failed, I decided not to "throw good money against bad", did some on-line research, and decided to try the Sentry 300S.

I feel I made a wise purchase. At age 65, I want to minimize the possibility of more gate opener failures. The US Sentry opener is of considerably better quality than the GTO unit it replaced. Unlike the one it replaced, the opener mechanism does not make metal-against-metal sounds as it operates in cold weather, nor does the motor sound like it strains while operating. The US Sentry opener unit appears to have the shaft seal securely attached to the opening mechanism which is all metal (unlike the GTO...

The install was very easy and operation of the gate opener is very good. My only complaint is the range of the remotes to work the gate is not as far as the Mule one this one replaced. The mule or GTO brands only last for about a year and then their circuit boards go out and they cost 170.00 to over 200.00 just to replace the board. The USAuotmatic Sentry 300 S works great so far except for the range of the transmitters. Also the warranty for the USAutomatic is 10 years! I will see if it lasts more than a year!

Reliability in question
Not a big problem to install. Some of their hardware was a bit cheap so I had to build my own chain brackets. After six months it stopped working, about once a week I would have to go out and re-program the remote control. It became worse over time and eventually stopped working all together. I ordered a new PSB (they call it "the brain") and installed it. Then I could not adjust the safety current limit. The gate would only move a few inches then turn around. I had to get a second "brain" and install it. My gate is now working but I have a very low level of confidence that I will work for another year without further issues. I could not find my original receipt so the manufacturer would not replace the "brain" under warranty. As other people have stated, it started to rust right away (even though it seldom rains here) and the build quality is at best low.

I was planning to make a sliding gate drive out of an old reversible drill and several bicycle chains until I found this operator. The price is hard to beat; I guess i would pay the same for parts for my dyi project. It's a dedicated kit, with options for expansion and numerous pieces of hardware intended to fit miscellaneous gates that I might have. Much better than anything i would build myself from a scratch. The gate needs to be stiff enough to take the chain tension, in my case 2" square pipe was enough. Of course, with accordance to Murphys laws, the fittings didn't fit my gate, because of the intervening midstile, but several cantilevered pipes cut and welded together allowed for installation and proper positioning of the chain and magnets on my gate. I poured the concrete foundation (2 bags 80lbs) with embedded bolts and placed metal conduits to the additional circuit breaker. The drive base was welded in place to avoid theft. Complicated to program
Too complicated to program. You have figure out what frequency your doors/gates are, which is difficult if you don't still have your owner's manuals. Then you have to open the remote and figure out the configurations of switches and adjust the frequency, while pushing two buttons with one hand. To top it all off they don't even send instructions! You are instructed to find them online to view or print. Don't waste your money. I gave up and threw it away...

Not very easy to sync.I wouldn't have ordered it if I had known how very difficult it is to use.

Handy, But a Bit Cranky
Very nice for landowner and visitors, enabling exit from the property without leaving the vehicle to push the button. The only problem is that it doesn't seem to operate in the rain, which is when you want it the most.

Wireless sensor works great!
I had to download the wiring diagram from the website and the channels are reversed from the original installation instructions which I didn't pick up until I got tech support. After it was corrected it works perfectly. Couldn't be happier.
very weak transmitter
Nice when it works. Even though the transmitter is less than 30 feet from the control box, it worked very intermittently. I eventually made it more reliable by making the transmitter almost horizontal, not vertical as instructed. It seemed to work better when "aimed" at the control box. For sale cheap, since I can't afford the $200 to replace lightning struck main control board.
